Choose a search method based on the information you have, such as owner name, property address, bill number, or account number.

  3. Search by owner name if you don’t have a bill.

The portal advises entering the last name followed by the first name or initial. For example, SMITH J. Do not use commas or other punctuation.

Step-by-step online payment instructions

  1. Visit the official Tax Office website.

Open the West Hartford Tax Office and choose Pay My Tax Bill Online.

  2. Open the West Hartford tax portal.

The town links to its MyTaxBill.org search and payment interface. Search for the applicable real estate tax account.

Use owner name, property location, account number, or bill number. Confirm the Grand List year and real estate bill type.

  4. Choose the installment you need to pay.

  5. Add the eligible bill to your payment cart.

Follow the portal’s available checkout prompts and verify the tax account before proceeding.

  6. Select your payment method.

Choose an eligible electronic check or card method. Review the processor’s fee and total charge.

  7. Submit your payment once.

Save the confirmation number and any transaction receipt. Avoid paying again solely because the tax record has not updated immediately.

  8. Confirm that payment posted.

The Tax Office says payments appear online one business day after they are posted in the office’s records. This may not be the same as the initial checkout confirmation time.

Payment near the deadline: Check the town’s accepted transaction cutoff and settlement instructions. Do not assume an online payment initiated late at night will receive the same treatment as an on-time postmarked check.

How are late property tax penalties calculated?

West Hartford’s Tax Office states that delinquent taxes incur interest at 1.5% per month, calculated from the original due date. For the current cycle, the town explains that:

  • First-installment payments made after August 3, 2026 incur interest calculated back to July 1. The town gives 3% as the rate on August 4.
  • Second-installment payments made after February 1, 2027 incur interest calculated back to January 1. The town gives 3% as the rate on February 2.
  • Additional statutory rules and collection costs may apply to an older delinquent balance.
Do not pay only the original bill amount if taxes are late. Find the current account balance or ask Revenue Collection for the amount required through your payment date. The original installment may not include accrued interest.

04 / WEST HARTFORD MILL RATES

West Hartford CT Property Tax Rate: Real Estate vs. Motor Vehicles

Connecticut property tax rates are expressed in mills. One mill equals $1 in tax per $1,000 of assessed value.

Property categoryCurrent mill rateEquivalent applied percentage
Real estate 46.77 mills 4.677% of assessed value
Business personal property 46.77 mills 4.677% of applicable assessed value
Motor vehicles 32.46 mills 3.246% of applicable assessed value

West Hartford real estate is generally assessed at 70% of fair market value. This means 46.77 mills does not translate into a 4.677% tax on the property’s full market value.

West Hartford property tax formula

Market Value × 70% = Assessed Value
Assessed Value × 46.77 ÷ 1,000 = Basic Annual Real Estate Tax

For example, if a house has a fair market value of $400,000 and a corresponding assessment of $280,000, the basic annual real estate tax at 46.77 mills is $13,095.60.

The equivalent basic real estate tax rate against that hypothetical full market value is approximately 3.2739%, before exemptions or other adjustments.

West Hartford is not the same as Hartford. The Town of West Hartford uses its own tax mill rates, property assessment records and Revenue Collection Office. Do not use City of Hartford rates for a property located in West Hartford.

05 / INTERACTIVE TAX ESTIMATE

West Hartford Property Tax Calculator

Estimate annual real estate taxes using your property’s market value or the assessed value from the official town record.

Calculate Your Annual Real Estate Tax

Estimated assessed value $280,000.00
Estimated annual tax $13,095.60
Equal half-year budgeting amount $6,547.80
Monthly equivalent for budgeting $1,091.30

Uses the town’s published 46.77-mill real estate rate. The half-year and monthly figures are budgeting estimates, not official installment quotes.

Example property tax estimates by market value

Illustrative market value70% assessed valueEstimated annual tax
$250,000$175,000$8,184.75
$300,000$210,000$9,821.70
$350,000$245,000$11,458.65
$400,000$280,000$13,095.60
$500,000$350,000$16,369.50
$600,000$420,000$19,643.40
$750,000$525,000$24,554.25
Do not use listing price as if it were your official assessment. The town’s assessed value may be based on a specific revaluation date. Recent sales prices, changes in market conditions, exemptions and subsequent reassessments can cause your official tax base to differ from this estimate.

06 / PROPERTY ASSESSMENT RECORDS

How to Find West Hartford Property Assessment and Sales Records

West Hartford’s Assessment Office maintains real estate property values and characteristics. The town launched a new online real property platform through DataScout on September 25, 2026, replacing its previous Vision Government Solutions property-record search.

This change matters because older search instructions may still direct homeowners to the former Vision website.

Open New Property Records ↗

Step-by-step assessment search

  1. Open the town Assessment page.

Locate Online Property Records in the page’s navigation or service links.

  2. Follow the current DataScout property-record link.

The town changed its assessment records platform in September 2026. Use its current official link rather than relying on older saved URLs.

  3. Search by available property identifiers.

Follow the platform’s current search options, which may include address, owner or parcel information.

  4. Select the correct property.

Compare the address, ownership details, parcel identification and legal description.

  5. Review the property’s data.

Look for assessment value, building and land characteristics, sale information, year built and other recorded details.

  6. Open the town’s online maps if needed.

The Assessment page also provides a separate map viewer for geographic property research.

  7. Compare records against the tax bill.

Use the official assessed value and applicable mill rate to understand the amount shown in the tax collection system.

West Hartford 2026 Revaluation

West Hartford has a 2026 Revaluation Project. Connecticut’s periodic real estate revaluation process can affect the assessed values used for future tax bills.

Homeowners should distinguish the tax bills currently due for the October 1, 2025 Grand List from the future tax cycle associated with the October 1, 2026 revaluation.

Tax amount after revaluation: A higher assessed value does not necessarily mean your next bill will rise by the same percentage. The town’s adopted mill rate for the next fiscal year also matters. Do not use the current 46.77-mill rate as a guaranteed future rate.

07 / HOMEOWNER TAX RELIEF

West Hartford Property Tax Relief for Seniors, Disabled Residents & Veterans

Connecticut and the Town of West Hartford provide several property tax relief and exemption programs. These are handled through the Assessment Office, not the Revenue Collection Office.

ProgramWho should check eligibilityPotential benefit
Elderly Homeowner Tax Relief Qualifying owners age 65 or older who satisfy applicable income and residency rules Income-based tax relief under state or local programs.
Totally Disabled Homeowner Relief Residents satisfying qualifying total-disability and program requirements Relief or exemptions depending on the applicable program.
Local Elderly Property Tax Freeze Eligible older homeowners satisfying local rules Qualifying limits on tax liability as described by town rules.
Veterans’ Exemptions Eligible veterans and qualifying spouses or survivors Assessment exemptions or other statutory benefits.
Legally Blind Exemptions Residents meeting prescribed certification and eligibility conditions Qualifying assessment reductions.
Additional Disabled or Blind Relief Applicants qualifying under local-option requirements Additional local exemption when applicable.

When should eligible senior homeowners apply?

The town’s current tax FAQ lists February 1 through May 17, 2027 as the application window for eligible elderly homeowner tax relief affecting future taxes.

Income thresholds and supporting documentation depend on the specific state or local program. Do not assume that eligibility under one senior benefit automatically qualifies you for another.

How to apply for West Hartford homeowner tax relief

  1. Open the town’s Tax Relief Programs page.

Use the official Assessment Office resource below.

  2. Choose the relevant program.

Review Elderly, Blind and Disabled, Veterans, or Other Tax Relief Programs.

  3. Open the instructions and application.

For example, the town provides a Local Elderly Property Tax Freeze Application, a Totally Disabled Tax Exemption Form D-1, and specific veterans’ exemption applications.

  4. Confirm eligibility and the filing period.

Check the program’s current requirements for age, disability, income, ownership, residency and available documentation.

  5. Prepare the required records.

Follow the application instructions concerning income verification, disability certification or service-related evidence.

  6. File with the Assessment Office.

Follow the permitted submission method and keep confirmation that the office received your application.

  7. Verify the benefit on the applicable tax record.

08 / ASSESSMENT APPEALS

How to Appeal Your West Hartford Property Assessment

If the town’s real estate assessment appears incorrect, you may be able to appeal to the West Hartford Board of Assessment Appeals.

The Board considers property assessment disputes under Connecticut law, including Connecticut General Statutes §12-111.

What was the 2026 real estate appeal deadline?

The town’s published deadline for the real estate assessment appeal application was February 20, 2026. This date has passed.

For a subsequent assessment year, homeowners must check the new filing deadline rather than reuse the previous year’s date.

2026 revaluation appeals require special attention. Because West Hartford is undergoing its 2026 revaluation, review the upcoming valuation notices and the next applicable Board of Assessment Appeals schedule. Do not assume a disagreement automatically extends the filing deadline.

Step-by-step property assessment appeal

  1. Look up the property’s official assessment.

Use the town’s current DataScout assessment records.

  2. Check the relevant assessment/revaluation date.

The town advises that comparable sales and appraisal evidence must relate to the proper valuation date. Later evidence may not be considered.

  3. Verify the property’s characteristics.

Review square footage, lot size, age, condition, improvements and other details for factual errors.

  4. Collect comparable sale evidence.

Identify similar homes and relevant transactions supporting your opinion of value.

  5. Open the Board of Assessment Appeals page.

Find the current Board of Assessment Appeals Application and, if using a representative, the Agent Appointment Form.

  6. Check and meet the current deadline.

The town previously permitted hand delivery, mail, fax and email, but verify the permitted methods for the particular appeal year.

  7. Retain the submitted application and evidence.

Keep proof of timely filing and watch for the board’s hearing notice.

  8. Attend the assigned hearing.

Present organized and relevant value evidence. Review the written decision and any subsequent review rights.

Remember: An assessment appeal concerns the assessed value or another appealable determination. The Tax Office collects the bill based on the legally established assessment and mill rate. Filing an appeal does not automatically stop delinquency interest from accruing on an unpaid bill.

10 / MORTGAGE ESCROW

Does Your Mortgage Company Pay West Hartford Property Taxes?

If your home has a mortgage escrow account, your lender may be responsible for paying West Hartford real estate tax installments from funds collected with your mortgage payment.

The town advises homeowners who receive a bill normally handled by their bank to forward the bill to the bank and ask the bank to contact the Tax Office about receiving future bills directly.

Before making a separate payment

  • Check whether your mortgage servicer has already paid or scheduled the installment.
  • Confirm the correct tax account and Grand List year.
  • Review posted payments in MyTaxBill.org.
  • Ask about any escrow shortage or account adjustment.
  • Do not make a duplicate payment without confirming the first transaction’s status.
Escrow does not eliminate the taxpayer’s responsibility. Confirm that the payment was actually made by the deadline. If the servicer misses a payment, contact it and the Tax Office promptly regarding the account and any resulting interest.

The town states that TaxServ Capital Services handles collection of certain delinquent motor vehicle and business personal property taxes, along with specified parking tickets and ordinance violations.

Do not assume such a notice is automatically a real estate property tax collection notice. Identify the account type and verify the debt with the town’s official contact information before paying.
