Prince George’s County Property Tax Due Dates for 2026–2027
The county’s fiscal tax year begins July 1 and ends June 30. Bills are generally issued in July. For Fiscal Year 2027, the tax year runs from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.
As of October 11, 2026, the standard September 30 deadline has passed. Eligible taxpayers using the semiannual schedule should confirm their remaining December 31 installment balance.
Who qualifies for semiannual property tax payments?
Prince George’s County offers two-installment payments for qualifying owner-occupied residential properties. The bill must identify the residential property as a Principal Residence.
The county also permits qualifying commercial-use property to pay semiannually when property taxes for the taxable year do not exceed $100,000.
If your bill does not identify an eligible semiannual payment option, do not divide the annual balance into two payments yourself. Follow the amount and due date stated on your official statement.
Prince George’s County Property Tax Rates for FY2027
Property tax rates in Prince George’s County are expressed as dollars of tax per $100 of assessable value. Your total rate can include county, state, planning, transit, stormwater and municipal components.
The county’s approved FY2027 budget maintains the general county real property tax rate at $1.00 per $100 of assessable value. This rate includes the county’s designated school funding component.
Per $100 of assessable value, before other applicable levies and charges.
Understanding the individual tax components
| Tax component | Rate or treatment |
|---|---|
| Prince George’s County general real property tax | $1.0000 per $100 for FY2027, subject to applicable municipal rate differentials. |
| Maryland state property tax | Additional statewide levy; use the current FY2027 adopted rate. |
| M-NCPPC | Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission levy; confirm the parcel’s applicable rate. |
| WSTC | Washington Suburban Transit Commission levy where applicable. |
| Stormwater / flood control | Rate may vary by property classification or applicable service area. |
| Municipal tax | Additional city or town rate when applicable; county municipal differential may modify the county component. |
| Other charges | Front foot benefit, solid waste service, tax liens or other charges may be added separately. |
How to find the exact rate on your property
-
Open your FY2027 property tax bill.
Use the official county tax inquiry service.
-
Identify the property municipality.
Confirm whether the parcel is in an incorporated city or unincorporated Prince George’s County.
-
Read each listed taxing authority.
Note the county, state, applicable special authorities and any municipal tax.
-
Use the FY2027 adopted-rate schedule.
The official county Property Taxes page links to its FY27 Tax Rates document.
-
Compare with the billed amount.
Apply each relevant rate to its corresponding assessable value and include separately listed charges and credits.
A property in Bowie may have different municipal taxation from one in Largo, Upper Marlboro or an unincorporated neighborhood. The precise rate depends on the parcel, not just the county name.
Prince George’s County Property Tax Calculator
Use the county’s stated calculation: divide the property’s assessable value by 100, multiply by the applicable tax rate, and add separately billed charges.
The calculator below starts with the verified $1.00 county component. Other rates are left at zero so you can enter the precise rates from your FY2027 tax bill or adopted-rate schedule.
Calculate Estimated Annual Property Tax
Important: Default values calculate only the county component. They are not a complete Prince George’s County tax bill. A real bill can include additional levies, distinct taxable bases, municipal differentials, special charges and credits. The semiannual result assumes an eligible account with equal installments.
Worked example using the county component
| Item | Example |
|---|---|
| Assumed assessable value | $400,000 |
| County tax rate | $1.00 per $100 |
| County component | $400,000 ÷ 100 × $1.00 = $4,000 |
| Additional authorities | Must be added separately |
| Other billed charges | Must be added if applicable |
| Applicable credits | Subtract confirmed qualifying amounts |
A seller’s Homestead or Homeowners’ Property Tax Credit may not automatically transfer to a buyer. Use the current SDAT assessment, exact taxing jurisdiction and your own potential eligibility when estimating future taxes.

How to Appeal a Prince George’s County Property Assessment

Assessment appeal micro-steps
-
Search the property in SDAT.
Review the valuation, assessment year and property characteristics.
-
Read your assessment notice.
Identify the notice date, valuation amount and filing deadline.
-
Check for factual errors.
Review land area, building size, property condition, improvements and other relevant features.
-
Prepare supporting evidence.
Use comparable sales, qualified appraisals, photographs or property-specific corrections.
-
File the first-level appeal with SDAT.
Follow the instructions on the current assessment notice.
-
Review the appeal decision.
If dissatisfied, check the next available appeal level and its statutory deadline.
For Prince George’s County property assessment questions, SDAT can be contacted at 301-952-2500.
Filing an assessment appeal does not automatically cancel a property tax payment deadline. Confirm your payment obligations separately with Treasury.
Prince George’s County Delinquent Taxes and Tax Sales
Unpaid property taxes may accrue penalties, interest and authorized collection costs. Accounts that remain unpaid can ultimately become subject to the county’s annual tax sale.
The county conducts its tax sale on the second Monday in May, subject to its annual official calendar. The tax sale generally concerns tax lien certificates, not immediate unrestricted ownership of a property.
Check the actual account balance and contact Treasury at 301-952-4030. A tax sale account can require different payoff instructions from an ordinary current-year bill.
What happens when real property taxes remain unpaid?
-
Annual taxes become overdue.
Under the ordinary annual schedule, taxes not paid by the applicable September deadline enter delinquent status.
-
Interest and authorized charges may apply.
The dated amount due can increase over time.
-
Delinquent notices may be sent.
The county’s tax bill calendar includes later delinquency notices and advertising.
-
Eligible accounts may be advertised.
The annual tax sale website lists properties being considered for tax lien certificate sale.
-
Tax lien certificates may be auctioned.
A purchaser acquires rights under the certificate and Maryland tax-sale laws, not immediate possession of the property.
-
Redemption and later proceedings follow legal rules.
Property owners may have statutory redemption rights. Follow the exact account’s current status and deadlines.

-
Verify the parcel and account.
Compare the tax sale listing with the Treasury and SDAT records.
-
Confirm current status.
Properties can be removed from the list after eligible payments. Do not rely on an old downloaded list.
The county’s 2026 tax sale portal published its initial property list on April 10, 2026 and scheduled subsequent updates as payments were received. Those dates are historical; do not treat them as the 2027 registration schedule.
